Lemon law

A Lemon law is written to protect consumers from problems associated with perpetually defective cars, trucks or vans. Before the laws came up, owners often had to harass dealers in order to address recurring problems with their cars. Such laws have been passed in every state over the last 25 years to protect car owners.

This rule guarantees a replacement vehicle for any newly purchased or used vehicles with recurring problems, or non-conformities.  It aids a car owner to quickly obtain relief with help of a qualified attorney, who specializes in defective vehicle cases. Until the early 1980’s, if someone purchased a new automobile that had recurring problems that began shortly after purchase, they would simply have to endure their bad luck. So, the first lemon laws were passed in early eighties in California and Connecticut states.

Thereafter, every state has now passed car owners’ protection lemon law, and if one owned a problem car, their relief may be just a phone call away. In most states in America, relief can come through either a full refund of your purchase price or a comparable replacement vehicle. Some states even offer limited protection for buyers of used vehicles, as well.

The big volume of cars manufactured each year ensures that a handful will be defective when shipped from the factory.  In nearly twenty million new vehicles manufactured annually in the United States, it has been estimated that nearly 100,000 vehicles could be considered to be defective (auto lemons). Fortunately, your chances of buying one are roughly one out of two hundred, but then someone may end up with such a car and therefore, it becomes important because, no manufacturer seems to be immune to the defective cars. One may own a Chrysler lemon, while the neighbor may own a General Motors lemon.
